چکیده
The aim of this study was to compare the patterns cerebellar alterations associated with bipolar disease those induced by presence neurodegenerative pathologies clarify potential contribution affective disturbance. Twenty-nine patients affected disorder, 32 subjects pathologies, and 37 age-matched healthy underwent a 3T MRI protocol. A voxel-based morphometry analysis used show similarities differences in grey matter (GM) loss between groups. We found pattern GM both groups that involved anterior posterior regions (p = 0.05). direct comparison demonstrated significant difference bilateral motor regions, such as lobules I?IV, V, VI, VIIIa, VIIIb, IX, VIIb vermis while overlapping evident right lobule crus I II. Our findings showed, for first time, common different alteration specific patients, which allowed us hypothesize role cognitive mood dysregulation symptoms characterize disorder.

Combined analysis of grey matter voxel-based morphometry and white matter tract-based spatial statistics in late-life bipolar disorder.
BACKGROUND Previous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) studies in young patients with bipolar disorder indicated the presence of grey matter concentration changes as well as microstructural alterations in white matter in various neocortical areas and the corpus callosum. Whether these structural changes are also present in elderly patients with bipolar disorder with long-lasting clinical evolutio...
متن کاملGrey matter alterations in patients with depersonalization disorder: a voxel-based morphometry study.
BACKGROUND To our knowledge, no whole brain investigation of morphological aberrations in dissociative disorder is available to date. Previous region-of-interest studies focused exclusively on amygdalar, hippocampal and parahippocampal grey matter volumes and did not include patients with depersonalization disorder (DPD). We therefore carried out an explorative whole brain study on structural b...
متن کاملGrey and white matter correlates of picture naming: evidence from a voxel-based lesion analysis of the Boston Naming Test.
A number of recent studies utilizing both functional neuroimaging and lesion analysis techniques in neurologic patients have produced conflicting results with respect to the neural correlates of picture naming. Picture naming involves a number of cognitive processes, from visual perception/recognition to lexical-semantic retrieval to articulation. This middle process, the ability to retrieve a ...
متن کاملVoxel-based morphometry shows no decreases in cerebellar gray matter volume in essential tremor.
OBJECTIVE To investigate cerebellar gray matter volume in patients with essential tremor (ET). METHODS We used voxel-based morphometry (VBM) based on high-resolution T1-weighted MRI to compare gray and white matter density between 27 patients with ET and 27 age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects. Fourteen patients had only postural tremor, whereas 13 patients showed additional intentio...
متن کاملGreater cerebellar gray matter volume in car drivers: an exploratory voxel-based morphometry study
Previous functional neuroimaging studies have identified multiple brain areas associated with distinct aspects of car driving in simulated traffic environments. Few studies, however, have examined brain morphology associated with everyday car-driving experience in real traffic. Thus, the aim of the current study was to identify gray matter volume differences between drivers and non-drivers. We ...
